Using The Free Text Search , Using The Case Search, Using The Image Search, Searching Using The Skeleton, Search Options


Clicking on the 'Case Search' button in the navigation bar of the search engine window will open up a window similar to the image below

The cases and images in the database are organised by collections of pathology and cross referenced by signs/symptoms. If you are interested in a specific disease entity and/or sign/symptom, then this is the best method of searching the database. The results returned will be for each case that matches your search criteria.

 

1. age range
Lowest age:
Highest age:

These drop down lists can be used to specify the minimum and maximum ages of the subject you are searching for. The default if nothing is entered here is to find all ages. (back to picture)

2.
Gender:

This menu can be used to specify a search for either male or female subjects (or both). (back to picture)

3.Surgical Sieve

Surgical Sieve is a filter used to select the different pathological diseases, thus limiting your choice when selecting the list of diagnosis immediately below. (back to picture)

4.Diagnosis

The list presented will reflect only those diagnosis under the category chosen in the 'Surgical Sieve'. (back to picture)

5. Sign/Symptom

This list allows you to search for either a sign or a symptom, or both. (back to picture)

6. Type

The list will reflect either the sign or the symptom list depending which has been chosen in number 5 above. (back to picture)

7. Once you have selected the criteria for your search click on the search button. Your results will then be displayed in the case viewer window (for more information on the case viewer click here). (back to picture)

8. Using the skeleton will refine your search to images pertaining to that anatomical area. (For more information on using the Skeleton click here) (back to picture)
