Using The Free Text Search , Using The Case Search, Using The Image Search, Searching Using The Skeleton, Search Options

Clicking on the 'Search' button will open up the search engine screen (this always defaults to the Free Text Search).

A free text Search will access the entire database, looking for similarities from each word you input against all words in the database. If you know precisely what you are looking for this is probably the easiest search to use.

1. Search for words:

Use the text box to input the words that best describe your request. (back to picture)

2.Multiple word search as:

This pull down menu acts using Boolean logic, you can define whether you are looking to match one word or all words, for instance if you are looking for an image of a hip OR thigh, then use the OR function. (back to picture)

if you are looking for a case involving a bone cyst of the lumbar spine, then you should type 'bone cyst lumbar spine' and select AND. (back to picture)

3. Search with sub strings?:

This pull down menu allows you to change whether you want to search for part of a word or only for the complete word itself. (back to picture)

4. Using the skeleton will refine your search to images pertaining to that anatomical area. (For more information on using the skeleton click here) (back to picture)

5. After you input your search criteria then click on the 'Search' button to start the search. Your results will be displayed in the case viewer (for more information on the case viewer click here). Please be patient whilst the database is accessed as it might take a little time depending on the number of results matching your requirements. (back to picture)
