Using The Free Text Search , Using The Case Search, Using The Image Search, Searching Using The Skeleton, Search Options


The fourth button in the navigation bar on the search engine window is 'Options'. There are two aspects to this, on the left (in the box name 'Search words against') are search criteria that apply only to the CASE and IMAGE searches. On the right are criteria that allow variation in display, these will function with all 3 types of searches.

Search words against:

Case descriptions
Case names
Case teaching points
Case diagnosis
Session description
Session teaching points
Image description
Image teaching points

Show one result per case only

Check to return all matches (clear for one per case)

Check to sort word searches by relevance

Check to include known synonyms in word searches

Search Words Against:

Case Descriptions: Selecting this box will search the text in the description of the case

Case Name: each case has a unique name, usually a three digit number containing a decimal point after the first digit. This is to be found at the top of the case viewer screen. Recording the case names of those cases of particular interest to you and entering in the number in the free text search will allow you to gain quick access to specific cases

Case teaching points: Selecting this box will search the text in the teaching point pertaining to the case

Case Diagnosis: Selecting this box will search the text in the diagnosis for the case

Session Description/Teaching Points: Images are also organised by session within the database, selecting these boxes will search the textual information within these

Image Description/Teaching Points: Selecting these buttons will search the information stored on each individual image as opposed to the cases to which they belong


Show one result per case only:

Check to return all matches: Check to return all matches: The default setting will DISPLAY all IMAGES that MATCH your search CRITERIA, but if you are interested IN only one image per case then deselect this button

Check to sort word searches by relevance: The default setting will return searches in response to their closeness to your original search terms. If you are looking for specifc images or cases you should make sure you have selected this box.

Check to include known synonyms in word searches: Where possible we have tried to include all the possible words used to describe individual situations, selecting this box will access the database dictionary and subsequently will return more results.
